Choosing Quality Cribs - What You Need To Know Before Buying a Crib

by Randi Reese

Choosing a crib for your new baby is the first important decision you will make.  There are many types and styles of baby cribs available and the choices can be confusing.  Quality cribs are the best option when it comes to furnishing your new nursery.  Quality cribs have the best safety features along with the best functionality.  They are built to last and are often made of high quality materials such as solid woods.

Materials

Quality cribs are often made of superior solid woods instead of veneers or plywood.  Look for designs that are sturdy and well built.  Wood should be solid and put together well.  Hardware as well should be of a good quality so that it won’t loosen or rust with time.  Quality cribs also use high quality paints and stains that will hold up well to use.

Design

Quality cribs are often made to be heirloom pieces.  They are typically made with traditional designs so that they have a timeless appeal.  The less fancy they are the more they will stand the test of time.  Consider safety features as well.  All cribs must comply with strict safety standards but  as a parent you should always verify that the crib meets these safety guidelines.

Price

Quality cribs may be slightly more expensive than other similar cribs.  However, you must consider the materials and workmanship that go into making the crib.  Aside from the crib being very sturdy and secure it is important that you choose a high quality crib if you intend to use the crib for more than one baby as your family expands.  Also, you may consider handing the crib down for future use as well.   Lower quality cribs may not be able to stand up to these needs
